We spent ages arguing over whether they should have lights in them. You know, whether it needs bulbs of its own or if that’s just a novelty for people too lazy to install a bathroom light. We went round in circles on this for MONTHS. Nothing was changing anyone’s mind. Then the bathroom lightbulb fell off the holder, literally, one evening. We booked an electrician, they cancelled twice.
For three weeks our bathroom was lit by the light coming from inside our cabinet.
Argument settled.

Nobody won. The universe just hated us all that much.
Between us, we’ve now purchased four cabinets. Seems like a lot until you realise how long you spend staring into them every day questioning today’s decisions.
Our best one hides its hinges incredibly well. You’d assume the mirror was just mounted straight on to the wall. Until you’re reaching in for cough sweets at speed and rocking back on your heels, poking at the glass like a fool because you can’t remember how the hell it swings out. Our worst one had such a pathetic shelf you could fit about half a deodorant stick on it and it’d overhang enough to defy physics. Our current door still does this, we’ve just learned which way to open it so the overweight stick doesn’t fall out. Half won.
Cupboard-wise it’s never been argued that they’re better than having a mirror. Or worse than having an actual cupboard. Kind of goes without saying there. But we’ve all accepted that leaning tissue boxes and showercream in there is better than nothing? So it’s not totally worthless.

You’ll fit about three shelves in it, four if you’re not picky about your plaster sticking out slightly for the foreseeable. One of us arranges it like an art gallery tasting room, each shelf carefully curated down to one bottle. The rest of us chuck the shit in there.
The guilt of opening and closing the door is real.

God those hinges.
Tiny scraps of dried toothpaste land in the joins and you don’t notice until someone’s like ‘looovely bottles you’ve got’ and you open the cabinet to reach for the ibuprofen and their face just transforms right before your eyes.
The cabinet with lights in actually sparked debate.
The kind of can’t-agree-on-everything debate. Half the family think they’re more flattering at 7am than the main bathroom light was. The others think they’re flattering because they’re dim enough not to show every inch of your skin. Flattering isn’t kind, kinda flattering is just being kind. We still haven’t agreed who’s right on that, but we listen when the other side talks now so half won I guess?
If we were telling our mate not to buy one, we’d say get the deep ones. Not theones that look best on the shop floor next to a row of white bottles that definitely aren’t covered in rings. You’ll make assumptions about how much crap you can fit in there based on how it looks empty. Trust us, ours are littered with lids.
